My Comfort Zone - Roses and Barrettes Diaper Cake

I have taken a step back to my comfort zone with this baby shower diaper cake. My inspiration really was the ribbon barrettes with rhinestones.  When I found them in the store I knew that I would be incorporating them into a diaper cake, what I didn't know was how.
As I worked on this cake I smiled fondly remembering the first gift my daughter received from one of her aunts was barrettes and headbands (even though she was born bald). A tradition had been born on that day, my daughter loved to shop for hair ornaments to add to her collection. Over the years, her collection symbolized different stages of her life preschool, kindergarten, middle school, etc; although she lost a few along the way, those first barrettes she received are still a part of her collection and a treasured keepsake.
I love it when a diaper cake makes me smile.

The Undressed Diaper Cake

I have created another cake that I consider traditional. Personally, the cake is adorable even though it seems a little undressed to me.
For me the process of creating a diaper cake involves providing a new mom with a unique baby gift that also includes a few basic necessities for the new baby. I know diapers are a necessity but I like to give the baby something to wear along with the bag of diapers. Producing an exclusive diaper cake and incorporating baby clothes into the cake is something that I thoroughly enjoy so maybe that's why these 'traditional' cakes sometimes feel slightly unclothed to me.
No worries though, they are beautiful and practical, so I'll continue to make them.

Recipe:

*42 Luvs diapers size 3
*22 Luvs diapers size 2
* 1 Carter Receiving Blanket
*1 Stuffed Cat (pink and beige)
*1 Washcloth Lollipop
*4 Barrettes
*1 9oz Bottle
Assorted Ribbon

My Exploration in Traditional Diaper Cakes

For some unknown reason I do not have a basic 'traditional' diaper cake available for viewing on my website. Because I enjoy creating 'customized' diaper cakes, I decided to address this by making one or two and then posting the results here and on my website.
My usual creative process involves  incorporating baby clothes into the design in ways that are unexpected, visible and result in a cake similar to its bakery counterpart - a frosted layer cake. Although, the process is basically the same minus all the tools that I normally use. Here are the results of my experiment.
I like it, even though the diapers are visible and there are no baby clothes. Its Simply Sporty!

This cake includes:
36 disposable diapers (Luvs size 3)
22 disposable diapers (Luvs size 2)
2 Receiving blankest
6 Washcloths
4 Balls (various sports themes)

I think I'll continue to experiment with this design a while longer.
I'm looking forward to your feedback.
