My New Favor 'it Purse Obession

One of my favorite things to shop for is a new purse.  As a matter of fact it's a personal tradition of mine to buy myself a new purse on my birthday.  It's my way of guaranteeing that at least one gift will be perfect and exactly what I wanted (when you have a husband and nine kids that spend little to no time shopping this is a necessary evil in my house). Over the years I have acquired quite a collection of gorgeous handbags, too many according to my husband but every woman knows you can never have too many purses.
Not long ago, I was attempting to design a party favor that would blend my love of purses with my continuous quest to provide a usable gift for guests.  I played around with a few different designs and ended up putting the project aside to accommodate customer orders and the impending holidays.
While visiting over the holidays, my granddaughter Ty, explored my craft room and happened upon my experiment.  She was instantly in love with the design and insisted that they all belonged to her.  She played with them, using them to hold her lip gloss, nail polish, and anything else that she could fit in them. She wanted to know if I would make a few more for her friends, because she wasn't sharing the 6 that I said she could have.  The next thing I knew was my 16 year-old's wanted one too, so I've decided to offer them for sale as 'Favor Purses'.  The overall reception of them has been overwhelming, but as I've already stated - A women could always use another cute purse.

Rock-a-Bye Baby Bassinets

I have been busy, busy, busy  working on a multitude of different projects, but one of my recent favorites has been these adorable diaper bassinets.  The ease of disassembling them, the re-usability factor and affordability are high on my list of attributes, fast making them a 'Customer Favorite' also.

They are constructed from disposable diapers (naturally), burp cloths and bibs, although sometimes I substitute infant wash cloths instead of bibs.

Here are a few examples of the design made with store bought items.

                                                        Pink Zebra Diaper Bassinet:
I love this one for the baby girl with a wild side.  :)

I have also had the pleasure of adapting this design to utilize 'Custom made' burp cloths and bibs from a wonderful shop I found on Facebook (www.facebook.com/pages/Grammys-Treasures).  I love her products and use them as often as I can in my designs.  Check her out!

Towel Cake Adventures

I have recently been asked to create a few 'Towel Cakes'.  One for a bridal shower, another for a wedding gift.  Both have inspired me to make a few others on a smaller scale; but first I'd like to share these two.

This one was for a bridal shower,  I love the colors and the way in which they compliment each other.

BRIDAL SHOWER TOWEL CAKE:  Grey towels with silver and white accents

This cake is very large, included 2 extra large bath towels, 2 hand towel, 6 wash cloths. and a double heart cake topper.  The silver flower accents were perfect!

I was asked to make the second cake by a friend of my granddaughters.  Her parents were renewing their vows and had just purchased their first home.  Mom's favorite color was red and she didn't have a wedding cake at her first ceremony.  Her daughter wanted her to have two and baked one and this one.

WEDDING TOWEL CAKE:  White towels with red and silver accents.

Contents include: 4 bath towels, 4 washcloths, 2 champagne flutes, silver and red rose accents.

Her mom loved it and refuses to take it apart.

Both of these designs can be made with any color scheme.  If interested in these or something especially for your event, please feel free to contact me at carlasbabycakes@gmail.com

Onesie Cupcake Ensemble

I have always tried to incorporate essential baby clothes into my diaper cake designs - well I decided to take out the diapers.  It's been rather interesting working without the diapers - onesie  cupcakes are pretty much a norm these days, but naturally my need to provide a little extra won out.  The contents that I used are as follows:  a onesie, a hat, scratch mittens and a bow.  The end results I found to be dainty and adorable.

After baking:

                                                       ONESIE CUPCAKE ENSEMBLE

Before baking (lol):

These will come packaged as singles (1), doubles (2) or quadruples (4).

As always your feedback and comments are always welcome.

Pink Monkey 'Dressed' Diaper Cake

Okay so I couldn't resist this ensemble!  The monkey, the blankets, the onesies, and the little booties were just too CUTE!  I immediately needed to create something out of these items ( this is why I try to stay out of the infant department when I'm out shopping, for something other than business).

Here is the before items:

Items include:  35 - Pampers disposable diapers (size 1), 3 - 'Carter' onesies, 2 - 'Carter' knit receiving blankets,  1 - hat, 2 - clip barrettes, 1 - pair of booties, 1 - pair of scratch mittens and 1 - 14 inch 'Carter' musical stuffed monkey.

My After:

I guess stopping by the infant department wasn't such a bad idea after all.  I am very pleased with the results! One of my personal favorites!  I think it's sooooo cute!

Feel free to leave your comments and feedback, it is always appreciated.

Catching up - Ssh! The Baby''s Sleeping!

It's been a while since I've had time to post/share on my blog.  I've decided it's time to catch up - so expect a flood of posts over the next few weeks (time permitting).
I have been working on a wide variety of projects and it is my hope that you all will indulge me as I share. Feel free to comment, critique, inquire or purchase any and all of my designs.

The 'Sleeping Baby Diaper Cake' is the first cake (?) that I'd like to share.  Although, its not for everyone (my daughter thinks they look creepy);  they are definitely a major focus at any baby shower.

Before:  1 - 5 piece 'Bright Future' set which included: bodysuit, bib, hat, sleep & play outfit, and a receiving blanket.  Also used 35 Pampers disposable diapers size 2 and a pacifier.

After:  1 - Peaceful 'Sleeping Diaper Baby'! Guaranteed  to attract attention as a baby shower centerpiece!

BUY IT NOW FOR $38.00 plus shipping!

A Bouquet ??? A Table Centerpiece ???

I am sitting here looking at my latest creations, wondering if it's a bouquet or a table decoration. At the outset of working on these, I was searching for my own interpretation of a 'Baby Sock Bouquet'. What I have come up with is an entirely different presentation of that concept.   I guess they could serve either purpose, but seriously what do you think?  Bouquet or table centerpieces?

Naturally, because I lean toward incorporating baby clothing items into my designs, I have not used the traditional fillers (artificial flowers and greenery) in either of these models, although it is entirely possible to include them.  Yes, there are diapers in these designs!

Well, what would you label them  -  Bouquet or Table Centerpiece or ...?  I am open to any ideas about these designs.  I am considering offering these for sale.

As always your feedback is welcomed and appreciated.
